A wind warning is in effect for Metro Vancouver and parts of the B.C. coast, with gusts expected to reach up to 90 km/h. Habitat and Climate Change Canada (ECCC) issued the alert, covering areas including east Vancouver Island, the Sunshine Coast, Greater Victoria, and the Gulf Islands. The strong winds pose a risk to travel and infrastructure, and residents are advised to take precautions.
The intensifying storm is prompting service adjustments and safety alerts across the region. BC Ferries is closely monitoring the situation and urging travellers to check its service notices page for potential cancellations on affected routes. ECCC has also issued a coastal flooding statement for parts of the Greater Victoria Coastline and the Southern Gulf Islands, warning of potential storm surge and ocean water levels exceeding typical high tides.
BC Hydro posted on X (formerly Twitter) acknowledging the incoming storm.
The wind warning extends to a large section of B.C. and is expected to ease by Saturday, with a forecast of mixed sun and clouds. However, overnight lows will drop to 4˚C on Saturday evening, requiring warmer clothing.
