Wind. Morocco, Egypt and South Africa: the winning trio of Africa

Africa and the Middle East installed 894 MW of wind capacity in 2019, a drop of 7% compared to installations in 2018”. This is what emerges from the new Global Wind Energy Council (GWEC) report, relayed by the daily The Economist. And to emphasize that the wind capacity installed in Africa and the Middle East now exceeds 6 GW.

South Africa, Egypt and Morocco are the continent’s champions in the field of wind energy, says GWEC.

“In terms of forecast installed capacity, the Kingdom occupies 3rd place in Africa with 1.2 GW expected over the next five years. South Africa would have 3.3 GW, while Egypt would total 1.8 GW ”, we read.

Wind capacity in the region is expected to increase by 10,732 MW over the next five years, driven by facilities in South Africa, Egypt, Morocco and Saudi Arabia, says GWEC.

Recall that at the regional level, Morocco took the presidency of the Arab body of renewable energies for the next two years, on the sidelines of the 6th international forum and 5th Arab forum of renewable energies, held on 27 and August 28 in the Jordanian capital.

The Arab Renewable Energies Authority is an institution which assists Arab societies to change their behavior and culture regarding the use of energies, through awareness and action, for the transfer of renewable energy technologies and the promotion of energy efficiency in the Arab world.
