Information from our competition partner:

Because Otto Wiesenthal couldn’t decide whether to open a gallery or a hotel, he simply combined both. This is how one of the most extraordinary hotels in Vienna was built around 30 years ago. With 62 rooms and suites, the Hotel Altstadt Vienna is now a meeting place for artists, art lovers, actors and individual travelers who are looking for a residential address that is beyond the mainstream.

The house combines an artistic ambience, exciting design and a personal, almost private atmosphere. The perfect symbiosis of style, elegance and Viennese lifestyle gives the boutique hotel its unique charm. The interior puts you in the mood for extended tours of discovery in the Austrian capital.

Otto Wiesenthal repeatedly demonstrated his enormous understanding of art, which he had acquired during many trips around the world. In recent years he has given architects and artists the opportunity to design very individual rooms and suites.

The exclusive Josephine Mutzenbacher suites by the Italian star architect Matteo Thun, the Polka design rooms by the duo Monica Singer and Marie Rahm or the opulently designed suite by the fashion designer Lena Hoschek – in each case he placed great emphasis on quality craftsmanship, creativity and the best materials .

Lilli Hollein, Director of Vienna Design Week, realized her first interior project here, the Lilli Hollein Suite, together with her husband Markus Eiblmayer. The Opera Suite thematizes Vienna as the center of the music world and the capital of classical music, it has a sound system and a collection of around 1000 mainly classical LPs. The Library Suite is dedicated to the topic of literature. It has a library that is accessible via a spiral iron staircase.

We can already look forward to the coming months: in 2021 – for the 30th anniversary – the opening of a new suite is planned alongside a few other projects, which is to be designed in cooperation with a well-known Austrian actor.

In addition to the extraordinary feeling of living that the stylish rooms and suites convey, it is above all the high-quality, regional breakfast that makes enthusiastic guests come back again and again. In the first hotel in Vienna to be awarded the environmental label, special emphasis is placed on the best local products.

Regional products from family businesses as well as vegan delicacies enrich the buffet. The cozy and stylishly furnished salons provide an exceptional setting for a good start to the day. With its unusual concept, the hotel belongs to the association “The castle in an other country” (www.experiencecha racter.com) and to the hotel association Aficionados.

The stay at the Panorama Hotel Turracher Höhe in Carinthia (raffle on January 2nd) was won by Melaniegler from Kaldorf.
