Jetro Willems’ Premier League adventure came to an abrupt end in January: the 22-time Oranje-international was rented out by Eintracht Frankfurt to Newcastle United, but suffered a serious knee injury. Willems, however, is not yet ready in England, he tells Ziggo Sport.
The 26-year-old left back is working on his rehabilitation in Frankfurt and hopes to make his return soon. However, Newcastle United is him not forgotten yet and Willems is also interested in a new Premier League transfer. “I do see a lot of messages. Come home and all that. If I get another chance to show a sequel, I definitely will. That could already be in January: why not? “
Willems really enjoyed his half-year Premier League. “The environment, the club, the competition … That just suited me. That’s just the total picture there,” says the ex-Spartan and PSV member. “Everyone has a competition in which he fits the most. For me, that is England.”
