It had to happen sooner or later. Toyota posted a few not too subtle “easter eggs” on its Instagram. This basically confirmed that we will soon witness the premiere of Corolla GR.
All hot-hatch fans are waiting for it
If this happens, Corolla will join the sports portfolio of the Gazoo Racing family. So it will be in the company of the GR Supra models and the hot hatch – GR Yaris. It is almost certain, because the Japanese posted photos on social media, on which internauts from the forum Toyota Corolla Forum US they found a few important details that Toyota marketers no doubt placed there on purpose.
The photos were provided courtesy of the Toyota USA Instagram account. At first glance – it is an ordinary Corolla cabin with the inscription “let them guess”. And indeed – upon closer inspection, there are many hidden premises throughout the interior of Corolla.
It can be seen in the photo above, there is an inscription on one of the indicators „G:16”. If this does not sound familiar to you, the G16 (or more precisely the G16E-GTS) is the in-house designation for the three-cylinder turbo engine found on the GR Yaris. Furthermore, the navigation displays “GR-Four”, echoing Toyota’s performance all-wheel drive system, and the air conditioning displays numbers 2 and 68 from left to right, a nod to the top specification GR Yaris – 268 KM.
So if the unofficial rumors turn out to be true, the Corolla GR will be presented. Of course, in the all-wheel drive hatchback, with a three-cylinder turbocharger and more power than the GR Yaris.
