Will NYC Latino Theater Companies Raise the Curtain?

New York’s theater industry has been hit hard by the pandemic.

The Broadway League announced that its theaters will remain behind closed doors until the summer of 2021.

Meanwhile, movie theaters in New York City remain unopened.

Faced with this bleak outlook, Latino companies that do theater in Spanish are struggling to stay afloat.

Whether it’s broadcasting their archives over the Internet or creating a hybrid product, Hispanic theaters face the greatest challenge of their existence.

To address these topics, representatives of some of these entities were summoned:

  • Rosalba Rolon, of the Pregones Theater / PRTT in the Bronx
  • Angel Gil Orrios of the Thalía Theater and Queens
  • Rafael Sanchez of the Spanish repertoire in manhattan

The conversation addresses the future prospects of the theatrical show, now that it has run out of public in the room, but the public rooms have been opened digitally.

The guests also analyze the urgent need for government participation to rescue these cultural venues.
