Extradition Request Looms in High-Profile Murder Case
Morocco Seeks to Bring Key Suspect to Justice in Rym Fikri’s Husband’s Death
A complex legal battle is unfolding as Morocco seeks the extradition of a key suspect in the murder of Reda Faras, the husband of singer Rym Fikri. The suspect, Abdelaziz L., allegedly played a pivotal role in the kidnapping and subsequent killing, escalating tensions between Moroccan and French authorities.
The Extradition Dilemma
Morocco has formally requested Abdelaziz L.’s extradition from France. According to a judicial source, their investigation revealed his direct involvement in the crimes. However, the request faces an uphill battle. The suspect also holds French citizenship, which complicates the process significantly.

“Extradition is a sovereign judicial decision. The territoriality of criminal facts, in addition to the nationality of the alleged, makes this extradition improbable,”
—Omar Mahmoud Bendjelloun, Lawyer
Recent data indicates that extradition treaties often face challenges when nationality is involved; roughly 30% of such requests are denied due to citizenship issues (Source 2024).
The Timeline of Events
Reda Faras was abducted near his Casablanca home on February 8, 2024. The perpetrators, who were traveling in an all-terrain vehicle, later abandoned his body in a riverbed near Rabat. This tragic incident triggered an investigation that led to the arrest of Reda Abakrim, also known as “Turbo,” and five others.
Reda Abakrim, who is facing charges of “kidnapping,” “forcible confinement,” “torture,” and “homicide with premeditation,” had faced a similar case in 2007. The victim’s family has the option to pursue justice in either French or Moroccan courts.
