Wildfires in Alberta lead to oil production cuts in Canada

It is reported that energy companies have cut oil production by 185,000 barrels per day, which is about 2% of Canada’s production. The country is the world’s fourth largest producer of crude oil and about 80% of its oil comes from Alberta.

So far there are no reports of significant infrastructure damage and oil production is expected to be restored once the wildfires are brought under control.

Alberta declared a state of emergency on Saturday in response to wildfires that forced the evacuation of nearly 30,000 people. More than 100 wildfires are still active, more than 30 of them are classified as uncontrolled. Alberta has formally requested assistance from the federal government to fight the fires.

“We’ve talked a lot about the various ways the federal government can help, and we will work to support Albertans across the province as needed,” Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said in a televised address.
