Since the end of the deconfinement, the Lamentin services have faced an upsurge in open-air landfills (in Chouchou, Lotissement Cailloux, Gédon, and Ravine Chaude, …). Mayor Jocelyn Sapotille emphasizes on social networks that at a time when the AJLA association is cleaning the sections, after their passage, it makes a “stain in the decor”. He indicates that less than 3 months ago, his teams carried out major cleaning campaigns followed by immediate securing of the sites (Volny, Caillou and Grosse Montagne landfills).
“Everyone must understand that we cannot clean up and put up barriers, because it is expensive, and the polluters will give themselves to their heart by creating other open dumps saying that the town would come and clean up” . The town councilor therefore calls for civic-mindedness and respect for the environment.
