Jakarta - Nandi Juliawan, known to many as encuy from the popular series Pension Thugs, was found dead at his home in Garut, West Java, on Saturday night, September 6, 2025. He was 32 years old. His death has prompted an outpouring of grief from fans and colleagues, and a revealing look into his final moments shared by his wife.
The tragedy unfolded after Nandi’s wife, Esa Lestari, discovered his body around 9:00 PM local time upon returning home from selling cireng (fried tapioca dumplings). Police found Nandi’s body in a hanging condition near the stairs of his house,using a blue sarong. The Garut Police’s Criminal Examination Unit Head, AKP Joko Prihatin, confirmed the circumstances to detikjabar.
In the wake of the devastating loss, Esa Lestari shared their last conversation on Instagram, offering a poignant glimpse into Nandi’s final hours.The messages reveal Nandi complaining of chest pain and requesting his wife contact his mother. “De Ka Simamah Piwarang Kabumi Abi Teu’s strong chest pain (deck, please tell me to go to the house, I am not strong chest pain),” he wrote. Esa responded with “Astaghfirullah,” prompting Nandi to ask,”Why Astaghfirullah?” She immediately sought help from her mother,but the exchange proved to be their last dialog.
Esa accompanied her post with a heartbroken message, expressing her regret that Nandi hadn’t shared the full extent of his struggles. “Last chat, the last communication, at 9 pm I waited for pickup, I usually picked up to the stall from work… It’s a shame if you just talk about what the problems are in your life. So you love me and Gendis that I don’t want to involve me in your problem.”
Beyond his role as Encuy in Pension Thugs, Nandi Juliawan also appeared as Lukman in the soap opera Suparman Reborn.
Authorities have not yet determined the motive behind Nandi’s death. Following a family request, the body was buried that night without an autopsy.
