Alexis Bledel may not seem like a threat in front of the camera, but it turns out that she is extremely dangerous online.
The actress has just been named the Most Dangerous Celebrity of the Year by cybersecurity firm McAfee as cyber criminals use her to direct users to websites that contain viruses or malware.
While this is definitely a shock, Bledel isn’t the only well-known celebrity fans have to watch out for.
Certain celebrities generate dangerous search results
The internet is not only a platform that many people around the world use every day, but also the central hub for cybercriminal activities.
Earlier this week it was reported that certain celebrities are being used to “lure consumers into malicious websites, malware and other risky results.”
One of those celebrities happens to be Bledel.
According to McAfee’s Most Dangerous Celebrities List this year, the former Gilmore Girls actress landed number one for being a highly sought-after A-lister.

In 2019, Bledel’s search results landed the most users via suspicious links on websites containing viruses or malware.
The actress takes first place from Ruby Rose, who topped the list last year largely because of fan interest in her role as Batwoman.
Behind Bledel follows the Late Late Show presenter James Corden, followed by Game of Thrones star Sophie Turner.
Other celebrities that made this year’s list include Anna Kendrick, Lupita Nyong’o, Jimmy Fallon, Jackie Chan, Lil Wayne, Nicki Minaj, and Tessa Thompson.
It has been found that cyber criminals are adding dangerous links to celebrity names in the hopes that fans will click on them and fall victim to viruses.
Gary Davis, McAfee’s chief consumer security evangelist, believes Bledel landed at the top of this year’s list because of her role in “The Handmaid’s Tale,” a fan-favorite Hulu series.
The same goes for Turner, who has been trending over the past few months for her role in Game of Thrones and her relationship with singer Joe Jonas.

McAfee urges internet users to exercise extreme caution.
Although the most dangerous celebrities change over time, cyber criminals can attach viruses to any known person in the industry.
For this reason, McAfee encourages Internet users to consider the risks involved in finding pirated content and to always take the necessary precautions to protect themselves from viruses and malware.
“Consumers may not be fully aware that the searches they conduct pose a risk, nor do they understand the harmful effects that can occur if personal information is compromised in exchange for access to their favorite celebrity, movie, TV show, or music” explained Davis.
“Criminals use fraudulent websites to trick unsuspecting consumers into accessing malicious files or content,” Davis said. “It is important that consumers learn to protect their digital lives from lurking cyber criminals by thinking twice before clicking on suspicious links or downloading content.”
