The Chinese vaccine Cansino had for now a unfortunate story in Argentina. The planets did not align so that what promised to be a saving option, mainly as a second dose of Sputnik V, would meet that expectation: interest waned and demand just discontinued until new notice.
It is one of the two vaccines monodosis that is in the market. The other is that of Johnson & Johnson, which Argentina approved but for now has not closed any contract. When the shortage of vaccines was a major problem in the country, the Government agreed to a framework agreement with Cansino for 5.4 million doses.
It was the middle of June and Argentina could not get off the ground in its immunization campaign, especially due to the lack of second file of Sputnik V. However, it was not easy then that the doses of Cansino arrived. The first batch arrived only in the first week of August. China prevented them from being exported before because it prioritized the vaccination of its population.
Cansino’s vaccine was, at the same time, the axis of a “pull” between the Nation and the provinces. At least Córdoba, Corrientes, Santa Fe, Buenos Aires and the City They joined the demand for this vaccine at that time from skinny syringes. If all these requests had been fulfilled, Argentina would have had 14 million doses.
Cansino was, in some way, the political fuse that some provinces found as the only option to demarcate from Nation and show that they were progressing independently in the purchase of vaccines, when shortages and escalating indictments for that lack they prevailed. There are provinces that they do not reach 100 doses applied, such as Chubut, Jujuy, San Juan, Tierra del Fuego and Tucumán. While Chaco, Formosa, Salta and Tucumán administered less than a thousand.
