Penis itching after sex may sound trivial but disturbing. One possible cause is a sexually transmitted disease (STD).

Intimate sessions that should end with a good night’s sleep instead have to deal with itching. Not only itching, sometimes uncomfortable sensations such as burning, sore or painful sensations arise.

There are a variety of possible causes including dry skin on the penis and ‘rough’ sex without enough lubrication.

Here are some causes of itchy penis after sex.

1. Latex allergy

Itching is usually an allergic reaction. Allergies during sex can be experienced by men, especially if the condom used contains latex.

As reported by Healthline, a latex allergy will trigger a number of reactions such as itching, rash, swelling, itchy throat, runny nose and eyes and wheezing.

2. Infection

Itchy penis is generally caused by a yeast infection. The initial symptom of a yeast infection is usually a red rash. There are also those that trigger white spots.

In addition to itching, yeast infections will trigger symptoms in the form of a burning sensation, thick white substance on the foreskin or folds of the skin of the penis, balanitis or inflammation of the glans head of the penis.

Balanitis is more prone to occur in men who are not circumcised. Fungal infections can be caused by minimal hygiene factors and sexually transmitted diseases (STDs).

3. Sexually transmitted diseases

Symptoms of sexually transmitted diseases can vary from person to person. Itching is the most common symptom. Besides itching, other types of symptoms vary depending on the disease.

Generally, symptoms of sexually transmitted diseases such as vaginal discharge on the penis, redness, rash, pain during intercourse or not, swelling and pain.

Sexually transmitted diseases that involve itching include gonorrhea, chlamydia, genital herpes, genital warts and trichomoniasis.

4. Products worn by women

Itching and allergic reactions can occur due to products used by women. Reporting from NDTV, some women’s products can trigger allergies such as creams, lotions, lubricants, powders and soaps.

During sex, the penis can come in contact with the product and a reaction such as itching, rash or redness occurs.

5. Lack of lubrication

Lack of lubrication will trigger itching both on the penis and vagina. The skin of the penis is in direct contact with the vagina in dry conditions and itching occurs. However, lack of lubrication will be more painful for women, especially during penetration. Apart from itching, this will trigger sores to vaginal pain.
