Whoops! RI’s Underwater Core Tilt, Terrible Effect?

Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – A study found the earth’s core under Indonesia tilted. This is because the dense iron core in the center of the Earth grows faster under the Banda Sea.

The study was conducted by researchers from the University of California Seismologists, Berkeley, United States (US). The study added that the Earth’s core in Indonesia loses heat faster than other regions, such as Brazil.

This makes cooling faster because of the crystallization of the iron constituent of the core. This incident has reportedly been going on for 500 years, but the reason for the cooling process is faster in the country.

“The only way we can explain it is that one side is growing faster than the other,” said Daniel Frost, lead author of the study and a seismologist at the University of California.

The findings came to light when the researchers studied seismic waves. The waves are earthquake underground vibrations and pass through the solid iron core.

The results of the study led scientists to come to a new conclusion, namely why the crystallization of iron tends to be westward, namely the Banda Sea compared to the Eastern region.

The researchers revealed there was asymmetrical growth, 60% higher to the west side. They also added that this growth does not mean it will risk unbalancing.

It didn’t stop there, Frost said there were still other mysteries to be uncovered. “The question is, does this change the strength of the magnetic field?” said Frost.

For information, the Earth’s core is located 3,000 kilometers below the Earth’s surface. It is spherical in shape and contains iron and nickel.

At the top of the core is the mantle with a depth of 300 km to 2,890 km below the Earth’s surface. Next is the outer mantle (10-300 km below the Earth’s surface) and the outermost is the Earth’s crust.
