who will replace Ericka Bareigts and Huguette Bello at Ass

After the second round of municipal elections on Sunday June 28, two seats of deputies are in the balance. Ericka Bareigts and Huguette Bello newly elected will have to choose. A new legislative election could be organized.

They are women mayors newly elected in this case. First magistrates of Saint-Denis and Saint-Paul, Ericka Bareigts and Huguette Bello will have to leave their seats as deputies.

The law on the cumulation of mandates indeed provides that the last mandate takes precedence over the others, thus the previous one falls in fact. The alternate becomes therefore takes over, at the National Assembly in this specific case. However, if the latter does not wish to go, a new partial legislative election can be organized.

Philippe Naillet returns to the National Assembly

Elected with 58.89% of the vote, Ericka Bareigts becomes the first woman mayor of Saint-Denis, the capital of Reunion and the largest city in Overseas. She won against Didier Robert, president of the Region.

The new elected mayor must therefore leave her seat as a member of parliament if she wants to manage her city. For Ericka Bareigts, things seem pretty clear on this subject. She should thus leave her place in the National Assembly to her deputy Philippe Naillet.

He thus finds the seat of deputy of the 1st constituency which he had already occupied in March 2016, following the entry of Ericka Bareigts to the government of Manuel Valls.

Who to replace Huguette Bello?

It is however more uncertain on the side of Huguette Bello. Back in business at the town hall of Saint-Paul, the member will leave her seat at the National Assembly. Huguette Bello takes over the town hall with 61.75% of the votes cast against Alain Bénard (38.25%).

His deputy, Olivier Hoarau, re-elected mayor of the Port, said he would not leave his chair as the town’s first magistrate. It is therefore impossible for him to sit as a Member of the National Assembly.

It is therefore a new by-election for the legislative elections. The name of a potential successor to Huguette Bello remains unknown, however. The member does not want to say anything about it at this time, as discussions are yet to take place.

“We have a name. We have a scenario, it is an important mandate, extremely important difficult in the context that we know because we did not agree in the National Assembly. It’s extremely difficult, we have a crushing majority, Reunion regresses, social regresses with Emmanuel Macron ”.

Huguette Bello

I’m not in the habit of coming forward here in any media without even having discussed it “she said on Monday June 29 in the morning radio of Réunion the 1st. Faced with questions from Philippe Dornier and Gaël Le Dantec, she did not wish to provide an immediate answer as to the name of her potential successor.
