This year, the Flemish government is aiming for a budget deficit of six billion euros. Next year that will be more than 2 billion euros. Yet Flemish Prime Minister Jan Jambon (N-VA) is categorical. “The government has no money other than that of the taxpayer, but we are not going to impose additional taxes on top of the existing taxes,” said Jambon.
“There will be no corona tax to pay the investments, you will not find any of that in the budget. The debts will go up because of the investments. They will be found within the budget in the longer term. There will be no new taxes and in 2020-” In 2021 we will not make additional savings in the budget. “
In “Terzake”, Jambon adds that the Flemish government wants to finance part of the plan with European resources. “There is a European recovery fund and there is a European Brexit fund. That European recovery fund would – that has yet to be confirmed – allow more than five billion to go to Belgium. I think that a legitimate part of that can come to Flanders. plans to submit, ”said Jambon.
