Who will be Minister of Culture in Magdeburg?

14 women and 25 men argue about the successor of Matthias Puhle as Magdeburg chief for culture, school and sport. An overview:

Magdeburg l An illustrious group of applicants has launched the invitation to tender for the position of Magdeburger Kulturbeiertragte. The 39 remaining candidates to the end have a partly remarkable and partly very cosmopolitan vita.

On May 14, 2020, the Magdeburg City Council will secretly re-appoint the heads of the departments for business and culture, school and sports in the town hall. Out of the original 53 interested parties, 39 also passed the test of the requirements and kept their applications up to ballot paper printing. The city council published only the names of all remaining applicants on Tuesday, the Volksstimme researched a short resume.

Headmistress is favorite

The 41-year-old headmistress from Magdeburg, Katja von Hagen, is considered the favorite for office. It has the SPD party book and should also support the CDU / FDP and Greens / future! to get. If the agreement is met, it promises a majority (31 out of 56 votes). But that is against the background of the secret vote and at least 25 councils from the left, AfD and two small fractions, which remained outside of the agreements (and are little amused about it) anything but certain.

The field of applicants consisting of 14 women and 25 men has other interesting candidates ready. In addition to Regina-Dolores Stieler-Hinz (Greens), who already holds the office in Minden that she is aiming for in Magdeburg, this includes, for example, Susanne Schweidler, head of the cultural affairs department in Magdeburg for many years, the busy local culture maker Karsten Steinmetz and two heads of department from the State Chancellery. Two employees of the Cultural History Museum and the former excavation director at the cathedral also threw their hats in the ring. And then there are a number of real world runners; Applications came from Cairo, Athens or Amsterdam, as well as from Berlin, Munich, Cologne and Rostock.

Difficult times due to Corona

Whoever wins the race has no easy task ahead of him or her after the low-culture Corona era.
