JENEWA, KOMPAS.com – A total of 10 countries worst hit Covid-19 received a warning from the World Health Organization ( WHO), because it accounts for 70 percent of total deaths in the world.
The ten countries are the United States (US), Brazil, India, Mexico, England, Italy, Peru, France, Spain and Iran.
WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said these countries must do more to reduce their death rates.

Then especially for Europe, WHO reminded “a lot of work to be done” to reduce the increase in cases corona virus, because mortality among the elderly will accelerate.
“We are starting to see a small increase in mortality in the elderly and it will definitely be more,” said Dr Mike Ryan director of the WHO’s emergencies program.
“We have not started the flu season yet, so what we are worried about is the possibility that this trend will worsen,” continued WHO Covid-19 technical chief Dr Maria van Kerkhove. Euronews Saturday (26/9/2020).

He said part of the increase in cases was due to countries getting better at detecting cases, but experts highlighted the increase in hospitalizations and intensive care or ICUs.
Dr Ryan and Dr Kerkhove both insisted that the lockdown was only a last resort.
“Are we really running out of all the ways to go back to lockdown as a solution?” said Dr Ryan while stating that countries need to implement testing, tracking and social distancing to fight Covid-19.

He added that contact tracing and quarantine were working in some countries but not working well in others.
France, for example, has reduced the quarantine period from 14 days to 7 days, to encourage people to self-isolate.
According to Dr Kerkhove, the lockdown is only buying time for countries.
