“Who wants to be a millionaire?”: Günther Jauch starts an investigation

Updated December 27, 2019, 12:16 p.m.

Günther Jauch invited to a family special of his quiz classic “Who wants to be a millionaire?”. A late Christmas gift could come for a candidate. She is looking for a wedding ring.

The rules sounded confusing at first. So there was a joker on top. Jauch: “Because it is Christmas, there is the additional possibility that you play a ‘family joker’. That means that if, for example, your aunt doesn’t know what to do, you can turn around and give the three of you advice as a family. “

Participants from three generations competed for each family. Granddaughter Nele started with the Kleefuss family. She struggled through. The teenager gave answers with an audible question mark. Jauch clarified: “But I’m asking the questions here.” Nele had to make a clear decision.

After that, it was her aunt Sarah Kleefuss’s turn: she wanted to buy new wedding rings out of the 16,000 euros she had earned. Because her husband’s original had been stolen, she said. Jauch made a search for the good piece with the engraving “Sarah” in Elvish script. The finder should send it to “Günther Jauch at RTL”.

Sarah Kleefuss brought her family up to 64,000 euros. Then she should know what was “special about the past NBA season”. She gambled. It was not “two Germans in the final”. But: the “title went to Canada”. If only Sarah had listened to her father – he had advised him to get out. The Kleefuss family had 16,000 euros.

The Mlakar family from Essen has a real singing artist in their ranks. 14-year-old Leon has already appeared in the musical “I’ve never been to New York”. The boy had a voice when it tasted it. But how did it go with Günther Jauch in the Council chair?

Vocally top, but when it came to food it was a problem. Jauch wanted to know: “Has the old gone rancid, is it time for me to do that before turning on the salad …?” Leon hardly got beyond his own nose. But he remembered that it was better to “change the oil”. But then he didn’t want to guess much longer.

If only young Leon had stayed with Jauch longer. So he shouldn’t have despaired next to his grandfather Thomas. Mother Tanja should answer: “If there is a debate about a possible ‘enlargement of the body area’, is it mostly about …?” No, it would not have been “cosmetic surgery”.

At least that’s how the “family joker” came into play. Mother Tanja had her son Leon explain that “enlarging the body area” in handball in “football” was not desired. Because the mother then believed him – and gave the correct answer – the boy cheered as if he had just become a millionaire.

Grandpa was also deployed, but it was not enough for the Mlakar family for the million. At the 64,000 euro limit, the grandfather refused to answer the following yes question: “Which local fish has no scales?” Incidentally, it would have been the catfish. After all: the Mlakar family won 32,000 euros.

The Borggreves from Lower Saxony could only dream of this amount. So it didn’t help that they tweeted a schnapps with effervescent powder in their mouths before the guessing session. Jauch, by the way, refused the “good sip”, which is said to stimulate the brain.

Granddaughter Laurel-Michelle found the first tasks difficult. “If I have a pen pal in the US capital, will I get someone in …?” The answer: “Washington Post”! Jauch continued to investigate Laurel-Michelle, her level of knowledge in US geography was sobering: “I don’t know the capital of the United States.”

And then there was a breakdown: Mother Sandra Borggreve tried the “phone joker” when asked about the maximum strokes in mini golf. The other party answered with either “A” (five beats) or “Eight” (answer D). It was not exactly understandable. And promptly broke the connection.

Günther Jauch wanted to have understood the “eight”. Mother Borggreve and her family in the background as well. But protests arose from the audience. Some wanted to hear a simple “A” for the answer “five beats”.

Whether five or eight strokes – in the end it didn’t matter. Both were wrong. It would have been correct to take six strokes, which a minigolf player may use at most per lane. Borggreves had to say goodbye early. 500 euros in his own pocket remained only a slightly better Christmas bonus.

The Alburg family came to the train last. In the bright red Christmas sweater, mother Susanne earned 8,000 euros. Then the final chord shrilled. But Alburgs can still be seen. Part two of the “Family Special” from “Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?” follows on Monday, December 30, 8:15 p.m. on RTL.
