WHO: Reduce quarantine for the asymptomatic with a positive test

The World Health Organization called on the countries in the Covid crisis to find a balance between caring for people’s health and the economies of countries where there is a danger of staff shortages, BTA reported.

At a news conference, the director of the World Health Organization’s emergency program, Michael Ryan, called on governments to reduce the period of isolation for asymptomatic patients with a positive Covid test.

Hours before his speech, some countries had already taken similar steps. In Romania, quarantine will be reduced from 14 to 10 days, Health Minister Rafila said. It is justified by the fact that a similar period of isolation is valid for other Member States of the European Union. He added, however, that such a period could not be shortened in Romania due to the level of vaccination.

Earlier, Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez also said that the period of mandatory isolation for asymptomatic patients will be 7 days instead of the current 10 days.

The United States shortened that period by more than five days earlier this week.
