Who is Kepler who became the name of the Kpop girl band Kep1er

Jakarta

Twitter social media suddenly shows the trending girl band Kpop Kep1er. Mentioning the name of this Girls Planet 999 dropout, suddenly remembered a person Johannes Kepler. Who’s he?

Johannes Kepler was a German astronomer who discovered the three laws of planetary motion. Born December 27, 1571 in Weil der Stadt, Württemberg, Germany, Kepler grew up at a time when scientists had a big debate as a result of the publication of the book “De Revolutionibus Orbium Coelestium” by Copernicus which presented the heliocentric theory.

Education

His love for the world of astronomy grew thanks to the role of his mother. As a child, his mother who loved nature often took Kepler out at night to observe the stars.

Kepler also had the opportunity to witness firsthand a comet in 1577 and a lunar eclipse in 1580. Kepler children began to have an interest in outer space objects.

He started his formal education at the German School, then the Latin School in 1576 and then continued to the Protestant Seminary in Adelberg which is a monastic school in 1584. Because he had a desire to become a priest, in 1589 he continued his education to college level.

With his intelligence, Kepler received a scholarship to study at the University of Tübingen. There he not only studied religion or theology but also Greek, philosophy, astronomy, and mathematics.

Kepler received his degree from the University of Tübingen in 1588. While studying there, he studied closely the heliocentric hypothesis of Copernicus and immediately believed it.

After leaving the University of Tübingen, Kepler was appointed professor at an academy in Graz. There he published his first book on astronomy in 1596. In that book he wrote a theory which some scientists thought was wrong.

However, Kepler’s work proves his mathematical abilities. When many scholars rejected his theory, the famous astronomer Tycho Brahe was impressed by his writings and invited Kepler to become an assistant at his observatory near Prague. Kepler joined Tycho Brahe in January 1600, but the following year Brahe died.

Planetary research

Kepler then glimpsed by the ruler of Rome at the time, Rudolph II. He was then appointed to replace Brahe as royal mathematician, for most of the rest of his life.

Kepler got a lot of records from Brahe’s observations of the planets.planet which he has studied for many years. Brahe himself was a great astronomer who did research into the sky before the invention of the telescope.

Kepler believed that the results of Brahe’s observations when analyzed mathematically would produce a correct theory of planetary motion. But he was quite disappointed after learning that the Brahe theory, or other classical astronomer theories only described the orbits of the planets as spherical. In fact, planetary orbits are not spherical but slightly elliptical.

After conducting a series of research and calculations from the hypotheses of classical astronomers, Kepler succeeded in making two laws regarding the motion of the planets. He wrote his theory into the book Astronomia Nova, published in 1609.

Conventionally, the laws of planetary motion he discovered were defined as follows:

1. Every planet rotates around the sun in an elliptical orbit
2. Planets move faster when they are closer to the Sun, so each planet has a different speed of rotation.

Ten years later, Kepler issued his third law which reads: The farther a planet is from the Sun, the longer it takes to make a revolution.

Kepler’s law, which gives a complete picture of the motion of planets, solves a fundamental problem of astronomy that has been the subject of much debate.

The discovery of Kepler is said to be able to solve problems beyond Copernicus and Galileo. Although the explanation for why the planets move in such orbits was only explained by Isaac Newton, Kepler paved the way for all the theories of later celestial scientists.
