Daniel Mitov, GERB’s candidate for new prime minister, was born on December 4, 1977 in Sofia. In 2002 he graduated in Political Science at Sofia University “St. Kl. Ohridski”. During the period 2001 – 2002 he specialized in “Political Skills” at the Center for Continuing Education of the New Bulgarian University.
From 2006 to 2010 he was the executive director of the Democracy Foundation. In 2010 he went on a mission to the US National Democratic Institute (NDI) in Iraq, where he was program manager of the Program for Development and Support of Political Parties. In 2012 he returned to Bulgaria, but soon after he was appointed permanent representative of NDI in Brussels. As a representative of NDI, he also works in Libya, Congo, Ukraine, Yemen, Tunisia and others.
From July 21, 2007 to November 26, 2011 he was Deputy Chairman of the Democrats for a Strong Bulgaria (DSB) party. On April 9, 2012, he left the DSB and joined the Bulgaria Citizens’ Movement party (July 1, 2012).
Since August 6, 2014, he has been Foreign Minister in the caretaker government of Georgi Bliznashki, appointed by President Rosen Plevneliev. As of November 7, 2014, he remains Foreign Minister in the third government of Boyko Borissov / January 27, 2017 /. Since 2010 he has been working as an official representative of the US National Democratic Institute in Iraq, where he was the program manager of the Program for Development and Support of Political Parties, and since 2013 he has been appointed permanent representative of the organization in Brussels, Belgium.
He has recently been a member of the GERB party, elected MP in the 45th National Assembly.
