INDOZONE.ID – The World Health Organization (WHO) hopes that the coronavirus pandemic will end sooner than the 1918 Spanish flu and last less than two years, said WHO chief Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus on Friday (21/8/2020), if the world unites and manages to find a vaccine.
WHO has always been careful in providing estimates on how quickly the pandemic can be handled while there is no vaccine.
Tedros also said the 1918 Spanish flu took two years to stop.
“In our situation there is more technology, and of course with more connectivity, the virus has a greater chance of spreading, it can move fast because it is easier to connect,” he said.
“But at the same time we also have the technology to stop it and the knowledge to stop it. So we have the disadvantages of globalization, proximity, connectedness but have the advantages of better technology. “
“So we hope to finish this pandemic in less than two years,” he continued.
He also said that it was important to make use of available tools to make it easier to find a corona virus vaccine.
