which universities require a health pass to attend classes

There are only a few weeks left until the return to classrooms (virtual or not) and several study houses already set protocols to ensure – as far as possible – the full attendance. An objective that has been truncated by the new variants of the Covid two years after pandemic.

As an example of this, Several universities study vaccination mandatory for its entire plant of students and teachers.

It is the case of the National University of La Matanza (UNLaM), which since January 1 of this year established the guidelines that emerge from resolution 717/21, signed in December 2021.

The protocol establishes that “every person over 13 years of age who comes to carry out a face-to-face activity at the University must prove that they have the complete vaccination schedule from at least 14 days prior to the visit”. The measure applies to its two headquarters: the campus located at Florencio Varela 1903 and the CABA headquarters at Moreno 162.

The resolution also contemplates that those cases that do not have the health pass for medical reasons, they should ask for a “special license” and that the institution’s health service will study your case individually.

“Students who have not completed their vaccination schedule, because they have not reached the interval necessary for the application of the second dose, must upload the certificate to the Intraconsultation system and update it once a new dose is applied,” it reads in the state university resolution directed by Daniel Eduardo Martínez.

At the University of La Matanza they will ask for the health pass.

For those who do not have any doses of vaccines, it will be necessary ask for a special license (which could be rejected), in which case the person must submit a negative Sars-Cov-2 test weekly if they wish to attend university.

However, UNLaM sources assure Clarion that the summer course will begin next Monday and the response has been in line with the requirements. “One week left for data upload and already accredited vaccination more than 70% of those who have to attend”, they pointed out.

It had also transpired that the National Technological University (UTN) was added to the measure and that he would request a health pass from the entire student campus. However, spokespersons for the institution reported that at the Buenos Aires Regional Faculty (which brings together three branches in the federal capital) “No health pass is being requested at the moment.”

Sources from the rectorate of the UTN also detailed Clarion that the request for the sanitary pass was made to students only in the Regional Faculties of Tucumán and Haedo. In the first, published in December of last year, the Tucuman headquarters adhered to the request for a sanitary pass that the interim governor implemented Osvaldo Jaldo under Resolution No. 1745/2021.

While at the Haedo Regional Faculty, the request was made to the students to register for the February exams “providing for the possibility of attendance in shifts” for this date. Likewise, they revealed that the Superior Council of the UTN will meet at the beginning of next month to evaluate the scenarios and observing the recommendations of the Ministry of Education of the Nation.

For its part, the National University of La Plata (UNLP) explained that, although security measures were implemented in November of last year that required at least one dose of the vaccine, for the moment they are still studying how the guidelines will look for the new school cycle.

From the Platense house of studies, which announced at the end of December that it will receive 33,144 students in this new year, they did add that “the UNLP is in tune and adheres to the provisions of the national and provincial health agencies, from which we now await guidelines regarding the procedure in the educational system in general”.

For its part, the Board of Directors of the School of Medicine from the University of Buenos Aires (UBA) had already recommended that the vaccine be mandatory for the entire population, a change in the protocol that requests a health pass has not yet been determined.

For the time being, official sources from the UBA told Clarion that “although some elements of virtuality could be applied, the idea is to bet on a full and careful attendance if the situation allows it“and they stressed that they will accompany the opinions of the Nation’s authorities.

What does the Ministry of Education say

From the portfolio that presides Jaime Perczyk, have ratified Clarion that universities -as autonomous entities- are in the conditions for full attendance to exist in them. The strategy of the Ministry of Education opts to continue coordinating “the intense vaccination campaign for students and teachers” before the start of classes.
