Return wave on Whit Monday: where it could get crowded on roads and trains
At the end of the long Pentecost weekend, most of those taking a short vacation want to return home by train or their own car. A strong return wave is therefore expected this Monday both on the coasts and inland. The regional trains, which can be used with the 9-euro ticket that has been in force since June 1, are likely to be particularly busy.

Trains on the island of Usedom, for example, were already heavily loaded in the late morning, according to the “Ostsee-Zeitung“. A spokesman for the railway warned in the morning: “We recommend our passengers to find out more information shortly before starting their journey in the information media of the local transport associations or via the DB Navigator,” the “OZ” quotes him as saying. But also on Rügen and the Fischland-Darß-Zingst peninsula, tens of thousands of holidaymakers spent the Pentecost festival: “Everything that is up to the beach must finally go down again,” said a DB spokeswoman – it will probably be most crowded against Afternoon.
In Schleswig-Holstein and Hamburg, brisk travel also ensures full trains again. As expected, there was a lot going on, especially from the islands and coasts to the south, said a spokeswoman for Deutsche Bahn in the morning. For a typical return day, however, this is nothing special. “Of course it’s full, but everything is going well so far,” said the spokeswoman. The biggest wave of travel is expected in the afternoon.

Experts expect a high volume of traffic here on Whit Monday
The ADAC North Rhine had already announced before the weekend that massive traffic disruptions are also to be expected on the NRW motorways on Monday afternoon. Many short vacationers from the most populous federal state drove their car in the direction of the German North and Baltic Sea coasts and the Netherlands – and on Monday they have to go back home.
