Where did Czechs most often become infected with coronavirus? The data speaks for itself

Workplace, household and routine activities. These are places and activities that 60 percent of those who test positive state that they are a probable source of infection. This follows from updated data published by the Institute of Health Information and Statistics of the Czech Republic (ÚZIS).

As the wave of community spread spreads across all regions, it is becoming increasingly difficult for hygienists to trace the transmission site. By September, 92 percent of those infected had been unable to tell where they were infected. In October, only 65 percent of positive covid could answer this question.

Entertainment is not the main risk

Spring, summer and autumn figures show that leisure activities do not pose a major risk. Unless patients were mistaken, until September, the proportion of transmission during sports, social events or holidays ranged between one and two percent. At the same time, it was these activities that the government was the first to restrict in September. The result was a decrease of about a third, to less than one percent of cases.

Schools reported an outbreak of infection from March to September from 14 percent. With six percent of cases, primary schools dominate, while universities accounted for only 2.4 percent of virus transmission. In fact, the individual rates are even lower in all cases, as some infections have identified more than one possible source of infection.

Data that should not be public

Compared to the spring, the share of those who brought the coronavirus from abroad fell to only one tenth in October. In October, less than three percent of people reported a cluster as a source of infection, compared with an average of over 11 percent in previous months.

IHIS originally did not want to publish data intended primarily for the Cabinet’s decision-making. Josef Tuček, a spokesman for the institute, sent them to the Echo24 news server by mistake. After their publication, ÚZIS turned and displayed a corrected and updated table on its stands.
