The first known case of Covid-19 was not a man who had never been to the market in Wuhan, where wild and domestic animals were sold, but a woman who worked in the market, writes virologist Michael Warrobie of the University of Arizona.
For the expert, this key piece of information and his analysis of other early cases of Covid-19 in the city clearly point to the animal origin of the virus.
The debate over this has been going on for almost two years now, without any evidence being reached.
Warroby was one of about 15 experts who published an article in Science in May asking for serious consideration to be given to the idea that the virus had been released from a laboratory in the Chinese city of Wuhan.
In his latest publication, he states that his study of the origin of the outbreak “provides strong evidence that the pandemic is starting from the market for live animals.”
According to scientists, his findings say that “there is a big red arrow pointing to the Juanan market as the most likely place where the pandemic started.”
“The virus did not come from other parts of Wuhan to the market. The evidence points quite seriously to the market,” Warroby told CNN.
