When the boss of Lion Air is confused to pay the Rp. 189 billion fine

Jakarta

Lion Air Group President Director Edward Sirait raised his voice regarding the lawsuit received by his party from aircraft leasing company Goshawk Aviation Ltd. Edward said Goshawk had sued Lion Air for arrears in aircraft rental fees.

Edward admitted that his party had to be in arrears on the plane rental. The reason is because the owned fleet cannot be flown, so the company cannot get income. According to him, the Corona pandemic was the culprit for his party not being able to fly the plane.

“Well, this is because we planes don’t fly, right because of the pandemic, our planes can’t fly, so we are in arrears. They (Goshawk) keep saying this is the agreement to be paid, we said if you have to pay, what do you want to pay? looking for money, “said Edward to detikcom, Wednesday night (23/9/2020).

Edward emphasized that so far his company had never failed to pay rent before the pandemic. However, because the Corona pandemic hit the aviation industry, now his party is forced to be in arrears.

“This is if before the pandemic we were never in arrears, even though, because of the pandemic our planes could not fly,” said Edward.

Even so, Edward said, Lion Air had actually tried to communicate with the charterers. However, the negotiations he attempted were rejected, and Goshawk took legal action instead.

“Even so, we previously wanted to ask them to talk about a solution. But they still submitted it to court,” said Edward.

In fact, according to him, Lion Air has also communicated with other aircraft rental companies to ask for negotiations for aircraft rental payments and the response has been positive.

“So, in this condition, we talk about the solution? We do that with other lessors (tenant companies), the response is positive, we don’t just rent in one place,” said Edward.

As is known, reported from the Law360 website, the plane charter company Goshawk Aviation, has sued Lion Air at a litigation court in London, England.

They demanded Lion Air to pay US $ 12.8 million (£ 10 million) or around Rp.189 billion (in exchange for Rp.14,800). Lion Air is said to be in debt for the rental costs of seven Boeing 737 aircraft.
