JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com – Vacancy for the position of Commander of the Army Strategic Reserve Command (Pangkostrad) for the last two months will soon be filled in the near future.
This is in line with the process of appointing the Kostrad Commander by the Council for High Ranks and Positions (Wanjakti) between the next week or two.
As long as the Pangkostrad position is vacant, many parties have speculated about the leader of the TNI AD combat unit. The speculation starts from a series of names with the rank of Lieutenant General (Lt. General) or 3-star general or Major General (Mayjen) or two-star general.
However, the speculation is now starting to be answered.

TNI Commander General Andika Perkasa ensure that the new Pangkostrad position will be filled by a high-ranking officer with the rank of Major General.
Thus, the figure of a high-ranking officer with the rank of Major General will get a promotion one level higher than his previous rank, namely becoming Lieutenant General.
Bearing in mind, the position of Pangkostrad itself is a high-ranking officer with the rank of Lieutenant General.
“All eligible two stars are for AD (Pangkostrad),” Andika said after a ministerial-level coordination meeting at the Coordinating Ministry for Human Development and Culture (Kemenko PMK) Building, Jakarta, Monday (17/1/2022). .

Even the Secretary General of the PDI-P DPP Hasto Kristiyanto explained the progress regarding the process of appointing a new Pangkostrad Commander.

Hasto revealed that he had seen the ongoing communication process between President Joko Widodo, Andika, and the Army Chief of Staff (KSAD) General Dudung Abdurachman in determining the figure of the new Pangkostrad.
“The process that has been carried out between President Joko Widodo and the TNI Commander with the Army Chief of Staff has narrowed down regarding who will be decided to fill the strategic position,” said Hasto when met at the PDI-P Party School, Monday.
Hasto said, PDI-P considered the position of the Kostrad Commander to be a very strategic position.
For this reason, Hasto considered that in determining the figure of the Kostrad Commander, the question of defense politics should also be discussed.
“The defense policy was built to ensure survive this nation,” he said.

The position of Pangkostrad, said Hasto, must also be chosen by someone who is able to build a source of strength for the country’s resilience.
He also reflected on the tension in the South China Sea.
According to Hasto, this should make Indonesia need consolidation work in strengthening all aspects of the country’s resilience.
“How can we utilize all national resources in building the source of the strength of the country’s resilience,” he explained.
Maruli to Agus Subiyanto
Meanwhile, the Director of the Institute for Security and Strategic Study (ISSES) Khairul Fahmi assessed that the Udaya Commander Major General Maruli Simanjuntak and the Siliwangi Regional Military Commander Major General Agus Subiyanto had the opportunity to be the new Kostrad Commanders.
Apart from being or currently serving as the Regional Military Commander, both of them are also classified as having a close relationship with President Joko Widodo.
This is because Maruli and Agus Subiyanto are both former commanders of the Presidential Security Forces (Danpaspampres).
In addition, Maruli is the son-in-law of the Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment (Menko Marves) Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan.
“Of course, in this case, Maruli does have a chance. But not only him, there are a number of two-star officers who are also worthy to fill the position of Pangkostrad,” said Fahmi to Kompas.com, Thursday (1/13/2022).

However, Fahmi said, this opportunity could have been lost if the appointment took into account the seniority aspect.
Maruli, who was the abiturant of the 1992 Military Academy (Akmil) was considered not to be the main choice because there were still a number of seniors who were equally worthy of the position.
“Maruli, who is an alumni of the 1992 Military Academy, will not be in the first priority because there are a number of seniors in the 90s Akmil generation who are also worthy, have achievements and have rich experience,” said Fahmi.
On the other hand, Fahmi said that filling the Kostrad Commander position was unavoidable from political dynamics. This can be seen because the appointment of Pangksotrad must go through a presidential decree.
But most importantly, he said, political matters such as proximity to power or certain political forces should not be the main consideration.
Therefore, he added, stakeholders including President Joko Widodo, if they have pocketed names, must be submitted immediately.
“Want Maruli or anyone else as long as they are deemed worthy, they will be sworn in immediately, so that this issue can be resolved,” he asserted.
“After all, whoever is appointed, there will be no resistance as long as they are qualified, competent and do not have a bad career history or have violated the law,” he added.
