when comics sketch New York and America

This week, a letter full of bubbles and drawings. In the company of superheroes or ordinary heroes, Lionel Gendron, RTL correspondent in the United States, tells us about his passion for comics, and what this form of artistic expression tells us about America.

Comics where, under the name Gotham City (Batman), or Metropolis (Superman), it is difficult not to recognize New York and its neighborhoods: Queen’s (Spider-man), Hell’s Kitchen (Daredevil). But not only. Other authors, like Art Spiegelman (mouse), also delivered their unique outlook on the city.

Le “cartoonist” Will Eisner thus performed a masterful trilogy on New York (New York Trilogy). In this graphic novel, he paints quite contemplative pictures of the daily life of its inhabitants, describing the stress but also the intoxicating dimension of a megalopolis which now belongs to everyone’s imagination.
