WhatsApp’s New Feature Can Blur Photos Before Sending

Jakarta

WhatsApp is preparing many new features which will be launched this year to improve its user experience. One of them is some additions to the photo and video editing features in the Android application.

This new feature was discovered by the WABetaInfo page in the WhatsApp application for Android beta version 2.22.3.5. This feature is still under development, so it is not yet available for beta testers.

In this new feature, WhatsApp adds an option to edit photos and videos. WABetaInfo found two new drawing pencils in the photo and video editing options, bringing the total selection of drawing pencils offered to three.

So far, WhatsApp users can change the color of the drawing pencil as they wish to edit photos or videos, but there is no option to change the line thickness. With these two new pencils, users can doodle and edit photos with thicker lines.

In addition, WABetaInfo also reports WhatsApp is developing a special tool to blur photos before sending. This feature has been available in the Signal app for Android and iOS since 2020.

With this photo blur feature, users can maintain their privacy even more. When sending photos or screenshots, they can censor parts that contain sensitive information so that other people don’t peek, as quoted from Android Police, Tuesday (18/1/2022).

Currently these two new photo editing features are still in the development stage. It is not known when WhatsApp will roll out these features to all its users.

In addition to the two features above, WhatsApp is also developing many new features. Starting from the ones that brought big changes like multi-device and chat transfer from Android to iOS, to the minor ones like animated emojis and a new voice note player.
