WhatsApp will likely improve cross-device connection

According to clues found by WABetaInfo in the latest beta, WhatsApp is working on a feature that would allow you to use your account on multiple devices simultaneously, without needing to log into your smartphone.

Indeed, unlike other messaging applications, WhatsApp does not yet allow “real” multi-device support, ie users must still have their smartphone connected in order to be able to use WhatsApp Web. If WhatsApp rolls out this enhanced multi-device support, it will certainly be highly appreciated by its mobile users, who would like to be able to access WhatsApp more easily on multiple devices at the same time.

The possibility of using up to 4 devices simultaneously

WhatsApp may soon offer a public beta for WhatsApp Web with the aim of allowing users to test WhatsApp on PC without a connected smartphone. No release date has yet been announced.

On a screenshot of WABetaInfo of this beta, it is stated that it would be possible to use up to 4 devices at the same time.

Other new features are also mentioned by WhatsApp:

  • an option to archive or mute discussions on a connected device,
  • an option to delete messages and chats on a connected device,
  • the ability to make a WhatsApp call directly on a desktop.

The messaging application specifies that these new features will be available “soon” without giving further details.
