WhatsApp says goodbye to one of the functions it launched during the pandemic | Lifestyle

It will not be necessary to remember what happened during the pandemic, in those first months of confinement where the apps Video calls became essential to continue working from home. That led many companies to start a career of absolute madness to see who was able to offer a greater number of attendees. And WhatsApp was no exception.

The idea that Facebook came up with was none other than, on the one hand, to expand the limit from four participants to eight and, in the case of those users who needed more, turn to Messenger rooms to raise that cap to fifty. In this way, WhatsApp could boast of being able to host conversations with up to 50 participants.

The rooms icon disappears

Obviously, one thing is that we need to talk to ten or 15 people and another that we choose WhatsApp to do it and this is where it seems that Facebook has failed, because just a year after that decision, the button to start those video calls through Messenger has disappeared. As you can see in the screenshot obtained from one of those beta versions of Android.

The ‘rooms’ button has disappeared.

For now, if you go to WhatsApp on your mobile with iOS or Android you’ll still have that control available to create new conversations but everything seems to indicate that in a next update it will be lost forever, surely, because its success has been quite scarce and from the social network they will have been able to verify that very few users have taken the step of trusting Messenger for these video calls in a group.

Another option is that Facebook does not give its arm to twist in this regard and is looking for a way to feed those communications in video for 50 people from WhatsApp from a very different perspective that could lead to more important changes, or a relocation that allows users to understand what they can do with the “Room” button that we have right now on our devices.

Keep in mind that as it is currently developed It is not clear that this control is used to make a group video call, especially because it is hosted in the same place from where we send photos, videos, files or the location in real time. Something that does not seem to make sense if we look above and see that the voice and video call options are well visible. We will see, anyway, what decision the Facebook people make.
