WhatsApp: Many shared messages dropped by 70 percent after restriction NOW

WhatsApp says the new message sharing restriction has reduced popular messages worldwide by around 70 percent. That writes TechCrunch.

The chat app introduced a new restriction in early April. If a user receives a message that has been forwarded at least five times, the recipient can forward that message to someone else one more time.

With the new approach, WhatsApp hopes to combat the spread of disinformation. “We think it is important that messages like this are less likely to be shared, so that WhatsApp remains a place for personal conversations,” the company wrote earlier.

In March, WhatsApp called on users not to simply forward messages about the corona virus. “If you’re not sure it’s true, don’t send it on.”
