WhatsApp is Developing a Chat Lock Feature that is not an April Fool’s Day Joke

Jakarta

WhatsApp currently working on a feature that seems to have been long awaited by users. This application owned by Meta develops a feature that allows users to lock and hide chats.

This feature was discovered by WABetaInfo in WhatsApp beta for Android version 2.23.8.2. However, currently this feature is still in the development stage so it is not yet available to users.

According to the WABetaInfo report, this feature allows users to lock certain chats and secure them using a password or fingerprint.

Even though it hasn’t been released yet, WABetaInfo managed to find out how this new feature works. Later WhatsApp users can lock chats directly from contact info or group chats. This means that this feature can be used to lock individual and group chats.

After adding a chat to the locked chats list, the conversation will only be accessible in the ‘locked chats’ section and is separate from other chats. Once locked, the chat can only be accessed using the fingerprint or password that has been installed by the user so that it cannot be read by other people.

Chats that have been locked cannot be opened without a fingerprint or password. If someone else forces open a locked chat and fails to provide the required authentication, they will be prompted by WhatsApp to delete the contents of the chat to open it.

This feature is certainly very useful for providing an additional layer of privacy and security for sensitive and confidential chats. Even though it was announced on April 1, WABetaInfo confirmed that this feature is really being developed by WhatsApp and not April Fools.

“This is real news. We decided not to celebrate April Fools because it could lead to misinformation not only today but also the following days,” wrote WABetaInfo in a tweet on Twitter, as quoted by detikINET, Saturday (1/4/2023).

WhatsApp really working on this feature and it will be available in a future update.”

As previously explained, the chat lock feature is still being developed by WhatsApp. It is not yet known when this feature will be released for beta testers and then all WhatsApp users.
