WhatsApp: How to control and avoid annoying groups

Till the date, WhatsApp does not allow blocking groups the same way you can do it with contacts. This is a shame because we have all been added to group chats without asking for permission or opinion. Sometimes you neglect the phone for a couple of hours and when you least think, alerts and many messages begin to arrive that you did not even expect to receive.

If you don’t want a group to be so annoying you have two options: The first is leave the group. More when it comes to an action for which you were not asked for permission or even because they expose your phone to people that you simply do not want to have contact with.

However, sometimes you cannot leave a group because it is work. These sometimes, despite being on work or with coworkers, are also filled with memes, jokes and irrelevant things that do not interest you personally or serve you professionally. But since you can’t get out, yes you can silence it.

How to mute a WhatsApp group

  • On Android you just have to go to the group
  • Click / tap on the three dots in the upper right
  • Choose “Mute notifications”.
  • Choose muted for 8 hours, a week, or a year.
  • Choose if despite the muted, you want to see notifications

Another measure to apply to groups that do not interest you and to those who put you without your permission, is to enter the group, go to the list of participants and locate, to later block administrators. This is because later you leave the group and they immediately write to you to ask / persuade you to stay.

After blocking the administrator or administrators of the group, you must go to the settings of your account on WhatsApp to prevent them from adding you to new groups.

Just follow this route: Settings> Account> Privacy> Groups > Screen will appear “Who can add me to groups”. You will have the options:

  • Everyone
  • My contacts
  • My contacts, except …

When you do this, people who are not in your contact list cannot add you to groups. When someone forms a new group chat and wants to join you, they will first have to write to you by means of a private message to ask for authorization.

In this simple way, you can finally have more control over the groups – especially the annoying ones – and have a better user experience. WhatsApp.
