Xpeng G6 Gets a Major Refresh: 12-Minute Recharging?
The 2025 Xpeng G6 is set to impress with significant upgrades, including the tantalizing possibility of a mere 12-minute recharge at rapid-charging stations. This evolution could be a game-changer in the electric vehicle market, challenging the status quo.
A Bold Move at Le Mans
The Chinese automaker, **Xpeng**, is showcasing its revamped G6 model in Europe. The presentation at the 24 Hours of Le Mans, an unusual venue for the brand, garnered attention. The highlighted feature, “recharge in 12 minutes,” was prominently displayed.
Attending electromobilists discussed their rapid charging habits with enthusiasm. The “12-minute” promise could lure potential EV buyers who are initially skeptical. The 24 Hours of Le Mans is becoming like a French version of Goodwood, transforming from a racing event to a larger platform for automotive brands.
Ultra-Fast Charging Capabilities
The most striking update is the remarkable recharge time of just 12 minutes, down from the previous “less than 20 minutes” to charge from 10% to 80%. The DC charging capabilities of the Xpeng G6 have been accelerated to an industry-leading level. It is a significant improvement compared to models like the **Hyundai** Ioniq 5 and **Kia** EV6, which take approximately 18 minutes for the same charge.
The Guangzhou SUV now boasts a peak charging rate of 451 kW, a substantial increase from the current 280 kW (215 kW for the “standard” version). This advancement could provide a considerable advantage for drivers seeking convenience and efficiency. A 2024 study showed that the average time spent at a charging station is 30 minutes, which could be cut down significantly with this new technology.
Changes and Upgrades
Exterior alterations to the G6 are modest but refined. The front LED light strip now spans the vehicle’s entire width. The Xpeng logo has been reinstated on the hood. Slight changes at the rear, including an accentuated spoiler and an “L”-shaped rib, give the profile a more aggressive look.
A new purplish color and updated wheel designs will be available as well. Furthermore, the model is transitioning from a nickel-manganese-cobalt battery chemistry to lithium-iron-phosphate (LFP) batteries. This shift offers potentially better durability for frequent, ultra-fast charging and 100% recharges, which aligns with 800-volt systems.
Interior Enhancements and Revised Range
The cabin also gets a revamp, enhancing the perceived quality. Better materials, detailed LED backlights, and Alcantara fabric contribute to the improved feel. Practical additions include tabs for adjusting the air vents via the central screen.

The instrument panel is now integrated into a tablet display closer to the driver, with improved resolution. Front seats come with massage functions, while the cargo area remains unchanged. The “extended range” model is expected to lose some kilometers of range due to a decrease in battery capacity, estimated to be around 80 kWh net.
Price and Availability
Orders will open shortly, with deliveries planned for the school year’s start and a Black Edition version towards the end. Pricing will stay close to existing levels. The G6 Standard (255 hp, 66 kWh) starts at €42,990; the G6 Long Range (280 hp, 87 kWh) is €46,990; and the G6 Performance (476 hp, 87 kWh) is €50,990.
Growing Sales in France
**Xpeng** is making progress in the French market. The brand intends to distribute about 3,500 vehicles in France this year, and it appears to be on track to meet that goal. As noted by the Marketing Director of **Xpeng** France, **Thomas Rodier**, the company is currently selling 300–400 cars monthly. The network is expanding, with about 70 sales locations expected by year’s end.
