What to Expect at the Grand Opening of “New Winter Village” on Governors Island? – Telemundo New York (47)

New York City’s famous Governors Island will soon become another holiday destination with the launch of Winter Village December 17, a place for tourists and New Yorkers to enjoy.

The island is now open all year round seven days a week from 7:00 am to 6:15 pm, as Mayor Bill de Blasio announced the update in September.

This winter, visitors will be able to enjoy a 5,000-square-foot skating rink while sipping hot chocolate by the fire. The rink will be open on Fridays from noon to 5:00 pm and on Saturdays and Sundays from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm

One particular skating benefit will be the “Free admission friday“with waived admission fees for all visitors every Friday.

“We are very excited to welcome all New Yorkers to the first public winter season in Governors Island. From ice skating to hot chocolate by the fire, Governors Island Winter Village will provide visitors of all ages with an abundance of fun and festivities in cold weather, while serving as an incredible start to our inaugural winter season, ”said the President and CEO of Trust for Governors Island, Clare Newman.

Visitors can also rent bicycles and sleds. In addition to finding continuous lawn games like a Jenga giant and Cornhole. The winter Christmas lights will be scattered throughout the historic Colonels Row.

The 172-acre island can be reached by ferry, operated by Trust for Governors Island. The round-trip ferry ticket costs $ 3 for adults and departs daily from the Battery Maritime Building and 10 South Street and Manhattan.

Later this month, NYC Ferry will serve Governors Island beginning with the launch of the route. Coney Island.

Rides are free for children under 12, people over 65, NYCHA residents, and every weekend before noon.
