What symptoms associated with COVID-19 persist after recovery. Reedus

Most patients who have recovered from COVID-19 report persisting at least one symptom of the disease over the next 2-3 months.

Italian scientists decided to conduct a study to find out which symptoms persist most often after coronavirus. The experiment involved 143 patients whose average age was 56 and a half years.

Scientists observed volunteers who received treatment and recovered from the coronavirus. According to WHO guidelines, they received two negative COVID tests and were healthy. But some patients continued to experience malaise.

At the beginning of the study, data were collected on all clinical characteristics, including clinical and pharmacological history, lifestyle factors, vaccination status, and BMI for patients.

Researchers discoveredthat 72.7% of participants had signs of interstitial pneumonia during hospitalization. The average length of hospital stay was 13 and a half days.

Only 15% of patients received non-invasive and 5% invasive ventilation. At the time of assessment (on average 60.3 days after the onset of the first symptom of coronavirus), only 12.6% of the patients were completely healthy and did not experience any coronavirus symptoms.

One or two symptoms of the disease persisted in 32% of patients, and more than three symptoms remained in 55%.

It is noted that not a single patient had a high fever or symptoms of an acute illness. In 44.1% of patients, a deterioration in the quality of life was observed. Most often, subjects reported fatigue, shortness of breath, joint pain and breasts.
