Luca Doncic revealed to EFE that it would never pay the 3.12 million dollars for which a sticker with his photo and autograph was recently auctioned in the US because he prefers to “keep the money” but he admitted that he would like to own the precious stamp.
After the game that the Raptors and Mavericks played in Toronto, which the Dallas team lost 105-100, Doncic told EFE Questions that the $3.12 million paid November 18 in an auction for Chrome Doncic’s “that’s a lot of money.”
“Not me personally. A lot of money for a card. It’s more about saving money, you never know what’s coming”nba player
But the Slovenian Mavericks star also acknowledged that “it’s something special” that a collector paid a record £3.12m at auction to get the one-of-a-kind stamp.
And he added with a broad smile: “I wish I had the membership card”.
The sticker with Doncic’s effigy is a unique piece produced for the Panini National Treasures Rookie Patch Autographs (RPA) series, and therefore numbered 1 of 1, which also contains the Slovenian player’s autograph and a patch with the Doncic logo NBA that the player wore on one of his shirts.
According to sticker auction company PWCC, which made the sale, the price paid by an anonymous buyer is the highest ever for a basketball stamp at a public auction.
But it’s a bargain nonetheless: The new owner paid $1.5 million less than its previous owner was expected to shell out in a private settlement in March 2021 for the laminated stamp.
PWCC listed the “Luka Logoman” sticker as the 7th most expensive sticker ever (along with other stickers), 14th most expensive sold at public auction or private sale, and the most expensive basketball sticker purchased this year .
