How to catch the “hook” and implement the American V8 to accelerate to 100 in 8 seconds?
Soviet auto industry was for the most part a complete copy of foreign cars, but only in terms of design. Only AvtoVAZ also borrowed the engine for the Lada, but GAZ, having such a good appearance that resembles the golden era of cars in the United States, does not have the main thing – an engine that would correspond to such an exterior. This is probably one of the biggest shortcomings of the GAZ-24.
Only a 2.5-liter 100-horsepower unit “worked” from the Volga plant. Compared to the “Americans,” such numbers are simply ridiculous. So it is – the GAZ-24 has no dynamics and noble “roar” V8. But motorists who see a legend in the Volga that are similar to some Dodge Charger will not stop it.
The masters decided to install under the hood of the old, “barely breathing” GAZ-24 the real American V8 with a volume of 5.2 liters. The choice fell on the Jeep Grand Cherokee power unit, as this “cast-iron heart” has several important advantages: it is inexpensive and American, with a large volume and loud exhaust sound. What else is needed?
In order to at least somehow be able to realize this power, you need a new suspension, wide wheels and a transmission with a rear axle. Everything stock is completely unsuitable for working with V8 and therefore these components were also taken from American cars, but even this didn’t help much, since it still doesn’t work to “catch the hook”. This “Volga” accelerates to 100 km / h in 8 seconds, “slipping” all the way to 100 km / h, but with the correct suspension settings and a good hook, this GAZ-24 will reach 7 hundred seconds.
Bring to the “mind” the technical part, the appearance and this “Volga” will become a real “oil car”, because even in this form it has some kind of charisma.
