Bueckers Shines, But Wings Face Mounting Injury Concerns
Rookie’s Explosive Return Overshadowed by Team Health Crisis
After battling illness and recovering from a concussion, Paige Bueckers delivered a spectacular performance, but the Dallas Wings continue to struggle as key injuries pile up, threatening their already challenging season.
Bueckers Ignites Offensive Spark
Bueckers made an immediate impact in her return to the court on Thursday, scoring a career-high 35 points against the Phoenix Mercury. Battled some stuff, glad to be back. Excited to keep building, get back on the court,
she said, and her energy was palpable throughout the game. Despite her impressive showing, the Wings ultimately fell short, losing 80-93—their tenth defeat in eleven games.
Carrington’s Shoulder Injury Adds to Woes
During the fourth quarter against the Mercury, DiJonai Carrington sustained a shoulder injury in a scramble for possession. After a stolen pass by Satou Sabally, Carrington’s hand became trapped, visibly causing her pain. While currently listed as probable for the upcoming game against the Aces, her availability remains uncertain given the timing of the injury. The WNBA has seen a 12% increase in reported injuries this season compared to 2024, according to data from Spotrac (Spotrac).

Multiple Key Players Sidelined
The injury to Carrington is just the latest setback for the Wings. Myisha Hines-Allen is dealing with a right knee issue, limiting her participation in practice. Furthermore, Tyasha Harris underwent knee surgery on June 10 and will miss the remainder of the 2025 season. The team is also without Teaira McCowan, who is representing Turkey in the FIBA Women’s EuroBasket tournament and is expected to return in early July.
With these absences, Dallas is currently operating with only eight active players. The Wings’ offense, averaging 81.5 points per game, remains a relative strength, but their defense—allowing 88.5 points per game—is among the league’s worst.
Despite a six-game losing streak and a 1-10 record, the Wings hope Bueckers’ return can provide a much-needed boost as they face a challenging road ahead.
