“We developed the vaccine that we want to take and that we want our family to take”, is the guarantee of the medical director of Pfizer Portugal, Susana Castro Marques, for those who have doubts about the safety of the innovative form of immunization born from the union of the original pharmaceutical North American and German BioNTech. The wedding dates back to 2018 and the focus was on a universal flu vaccine, in what turned out to be the launch pad for the most awaited news in 2020: the discovery of “safe and effective” prevention against SARS-CoV-2 .
It was the first hope for the end of the Covid-19 era. There followed the announcements of two other equally advanced vaccines – from Moderna and partners AstraZeneca and University of Oxford. Last Friday, the product from Pfizer and BioNTech had an application for emergency use from the US drug authority.
