What about the radioactive water from Fukushima? The Japanese want to let her go to sea

The Fukushima nuclear power plant, made famous by the devastating earthquake and subsequent tsunami in 2011, still has not said its last word. According to expert calculations, the Japanese have a place for the water cooled by the damaged nuclear reactors until about the summer of next year. According to the Kyodo agency, which refers to government sources and quotes the Czech News Agency, a decision on what to do with it should be made in October.

What is the problem? Although the Japanese purify contaminated water, tritium, a hydrogen isotope, cannot be completely separated from it. According to the expert, this should not be too dangerous. If the Japanese government eventually decided to launch, it would not happen until two years later.

Common procedure? Fishermen protest

In addition, the International Atomic Energy Agency has confirmed that the discharge of contaminated water into the sea is a common practice and does not see a problem. At the same time, it should be added that the fuel has not yet been removed from the molten reactor.

The problem with this approach, of course, is that Fukushima fishermen, who fear loss, and, for example, South Korea, which has not bought fish from Fukushimi for a long time.

The nine-year-old tragedy claimed more than 18,000 lives, and more than 150,000 people had to be evacuated. The entire region was closed due to radioactive contamination for several years. The partial release did not occur until 2015.
