Wetterskip takes two days to pump

Sun 25 July 2021 8.36 pm

LEEUWARDEN – The Wetterskip Fryslân says it will need one to two more days to be able to pump out all the excess water. The water is drained from the polders. Additional pumps have been deployed in Reahel and Kuikhorne. The pumps relieve the local polder pumping stations.

“It is expected to take at least 1 to 2 days before the situation returns to normal in places where there was an extreme amount of rain. We will remain alert for the coming hours and days.” so let Wetterskip know.

In the night from Saturday to Sunday, there was an extreme amount of rain in Noardeast-Fryslân in a short time. In some places even 100 millimeters in 12 hours. Sunday afternoon the focus of the showers was more westward.

Explosive rainfall
Dijkgraaf Luzette Kroon: “We have been seeing such explosive, local rainfall more and more recently. It is important to consciously look for solutions for this enormous supply of water that then arises. We as Wetterskip are fully engaged in this.”
