Westfleisch: mass tests on Corona in Hamm – Westphalia-Lippe – News

Long lines in front of the tents

The city set up tents in a parking lot for the campaign and called doctors and volunteers together. Long lines of employees, who wanted to be tested, formed in the prescribed distance early in the morning – all voluntarily, as is emphasized.

They gave their rehearsal in the tent and then left the parking lot in a big arc. All of this obviously went off without problems and so quickly that 400 employees were tested after just three hours.

Accommodation is being examined

In addition, 350 apartments are checked. Many of the employees who came to work in the slaughterhouse from abroad do not live in collective accommodation, but in normal rental apartments. The city checks whether there are several people living together and what the hygienic conditions are like.

First corona test results on Tuesday evening

The campaign will continue on Monday, with the first results to be announced on Tuesday evening. It depends on how the measures to curb the corona pandemic are dealt with. If a total of more than 90 people were infected in Hamm, the loosening of the corona measures would have to be collected again. They should come into force next Monday.

Court: “Westfleisch” plant in Coesfeld remains closed

In Coesfeld, the proposed easing measures are postponed for a whole week, only schools and day care centers are allowed to start operating again. The reason is the number of infections, which are far above the prescribed rate of 50 per 100,000 inhabitants. According to the district spokesman, 952 of the approximately 1,200 employees have been tested and 465 tests evaluated. The result (as of May 10, 2020): 205 positive cases.

In addition, the slaughterhouse in Coesfeld was temporarily closed until May 17, 2020 at midnight on instructions from the district. “Westfleisch” wanted to get the decision canceled in court by urgent application, but the administrative court in Münster refused on Saturday (09.05.2020). “This confirms our legal opinion“said the district spokesman in a first statement.

Tönnies is also tested

The Tönnies company will also be testing from Monday, starting with 500 employees. After the accumulation of cases at “Westfleisch”, the country ordered that all 20,000 employees of the slaughterhouses be tested. There are 16 companies in the Gütersloh district alone, including five large ones.
