Who would have thought possible before the season started?
Nine matchdays have been concluded and Werder already have 15 points on their account. The best start since 2018/19 under Florian Kohfeldt, when Bremen even secured 17 points. The climber is not only competitive but also involved at the summit. After the 2-1 win at Hoffenheim, Werder even spent the night in a place in the Champions League and left top-tier teams like Frankfurt, Leipzig and Leverkusen behind in the standings.
Trainer Ol Werner: “We are happy with our reliably scoring, we are in good shape and we got off to a reasonable start. We play good football in which we can identify. I’m happy for the fans and the people around us who support us.”

In the home game against Gladbach (5:1) and in Hoffenheim, the fans even sang the first chants “European Pocaaaaaal”. The desire for a return to the big stage is great in Bremen. And thanks to their performances, the players are on their way to Europe, even if they don’t want to hear about it at the moment…

Mitch Weiser (he took the penalty to make it 2-1): “The fans are dreaming, it’s a nice snapshot, but you have to be realistic. I don’t look at the standings.” Leo Bittencourt also keeps the ball flat: “Placement isn’t so important now because there are still many games to go.”
