Handball Enthusiasts Gather For Memorial Tournament In Wenatchee
WENATCHEE, WA – The sound of handball will echo through Walla Walla Point park this Saturday, September 13th, as the Central Washington Handball Club and Moses Lake Athletic Club co-host the annual Dick Pieper handball memorial Tournament. Players from across Eastern Washington are expected to compete in the daylong event, reviving a local tradition.
The tournament honors Dick Pieper, former sports editor of the Wenatchee World and a key advocate for the construction of the park’s 3-wall handball courts. Originally held during the Apple Blossom Festival in spring, the tournament has been rescheduled to September, offering a new date for players to gather and celebrate the sport. The Central Washington Handball Club aims to promote handball throughout the region, providing lessons and equipment for newcomers.
Competition begins at 9:00 AM, with registration available online at r2sports.com and on-site until 9:00 AM on the day of the tournament. The $35 entry fee includes a T-shirt, lunch, and drinks; students and active military personnel are exempt from the fee.
Beyond the competition, the Central Washington Handball club regularly hosts practice days at Walla Walla Point Park on Tuesdays in August and september at 5:30 PM, and Saturdays at 10:00 AM, with loaner equipment available for those interested in learning the game. The club’s efforts aim to grow the sport and foster a community of handball players in Central Washington.
