Weimer’s Role: Controversy Over Alleged Theft of Weidel’s Texts

Questions Raised Over Alleged Use of ⁤Alice Weidel’s Texts by “The European

Recent reports ⁤have brought into question ⁢the sourcing practices of “The European,” a publication⁤ within the Weimer Media Group, specifically regarding texts attributed to Alice Weidel, a prominent ⁤politician from the AfD party. The controversy centers on⁣ whether speeches⁤ and⁤ statements by⁤ Weidel were published without her authorization.

The situation unfolded after Alexander Wallasch‘s initial reporting, subsequently covered by “Nius.” “The European” responded with‍ a “clarification,” asserting⁤ that editorial‌ responsibility ⁣rests solely ⁢with the editor-in-chief – a role held‍ successively ‍by Alexander ⁤Görlach, Oswald Metzger (formerly ‍of the SPD, Greens, and now⁢ CDU), and Stefan Groß-lobkowicz. The publication⁣ defended⁤ its practice ‍of publishing⁤ politicians’ speeches with source⁢ attribution, stating this was standard practice prior ⁢to its 2021⁢ relaunch.

Though,‌ the claim‌ of standard practice is disputed, as serious media outlets generally do not publish politicians’ ⁢speeches and ‍statements in this manner.

Following the reports, “The European” removed numerous texts, including those specifically attributed to Weidel and other authors.‍ According to Ansgar Graw, the current editor of “The European,” the initial removal of Weidel’s ‍publications from ⁢2017-2020 ‌occurred after Weidel stated she‌ had not authorized ‍their ⁢publication. This led to a broader review, and subsequently the removal of all author profiles to investigate the origins of content‌ dating back over‍ 15 years.

The Ministry of ⁢Culture, previously headed by Weimer, declined to comment on the matter,‍ directing ⁤inquiries to the weimer Media Group.Notably, Weimer ‍withdrew from management ‍of the Weimer Media group‍ in april, with his wife, christiane Goetz-Weimer, now ⁣serving as the sole ⁤managing director.

“The European” acknowledged that in some instances, sources may not have⁣ been cited⁣ and expressed regret for any such omissions.⁢ Texts from before the 2021 platform relaunch were described as “largely deleted” at that time.
