A member of the rescue team named Muralidhar Singh said the well was more than 15 meters deep.

India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi also responded to the incident via Twitter.

He called the incident heartbreaking. Modi also sent prayers for a speedy recovery for the injured.

“I extend my deepest condolences to the families of the victims,” ​​Modi said on Twitter.

“With this, I wish the injured a speedy recovery. Local governments are involved in any possible relief efforts,” Modi added.

Authorities are now investigating the incident in the village, some 300 kilometers east of Lucknow, the capital of Uttar Pradesh State.
